1% of all childhood cancers - an average of 4 children diagnosed each year.
Retinoblastoma is a cancer that affects the lining of the eye, the retina. It usually affects children less than 5 years old. About 40% have the genetic form, usually affecting both eyes. 60% have the non-genetic type, affecting only one eye. Since removal of the eye can cure most children, research is focused on preserving vision.
